Introduction to HTML5 and CSS3 // TECH 370

Alexis Goldstein, Author, HTML5 & CSS3 for the Real World

Session 2: CSS3 meets Tuesday, October 18th from 6:00 - 8:00 pm

HTML5 and CSS3 are critical to the development of web and mobile technology. This intensive course covers the two emerging frontend development languages over the course of two sessions: HTML5 in the first and CSS3 in the second.

Session II: CSS3

CSS3 gives us a wide range of impressive new effects and styles to add to our websites, and most all of it can be added to your sites today! This class will teach you new techniques to take your sites to the next level.

This session will cover:

  • Creating rich graphics with no images using CSS gradients, color stops and alpha
  • How to use ANY font you like, even if the visitor does not have that font on their computer
  • Rounded corners, inset and drop shadows and text shadows
  • Creating truly flexible layouts with the new Flexbox Model
  • CSS Transitions, which can add impressive animations to your page
  • How to test for support of CSS3 and fall back gracefully if your visitor is using an older browser

Alexis Goldstein is the founder and CEO of aut faciam LLC, a software development, consulting and teaching company. She is a board member and teacher for Girl Develop It, a 2011 nextNY fellow, a member of the NYC Resistor hackerspace, and a student at the Art Student’s League.
